“Paṇṇavīsativassāni,

In the twenty-five years

1.2

yato pabbajitā ahaṁ;

since I went forth

Nāccharāsaṅghātamattampi,

I have not found peace of mind,

cittassūpasamajjhagaṁ.

even for as long as a finger-snap.

Aladdhā cetaso santiṁ,

Failing to find peace of heart,

kāmarāgenavassutā;

festering with sensual desire,

2.3

Bāhā paggayha kandantī,

I cried with flailing arms

2.4

vihāraṁ pāvisiṁ ahaṁ.

as I entered a dwelling.

Sā bhikkhuniṁ upāgacchiṁ,

I approached a nun

3.2

yā me saddhāyikā ahu;

in whom I had faith.

3.3

Sā me dhammamadesesi,

She taught me the Dhamma:

khandhāyatanadhātuyo.

the aggregates, sense fields, and elements.

Tassā dhammaṁ suṇitvāna,

When I heard her teaching,

ekamante upāvisiṁ;

I retired to a discreet place.

4.3

Pubbenivāsaṁ jānāmi,

I know my past lives;

4.4

dibbacakkhu visodhitaṁ.

my clairvoyance is purified;

5.1

Cetopariccañāṇañca,

I encompass the minds of others;

5.2

sotadhātu visodhitā;

my clairaudience is purified;

5.3

Iddhīpi me sacchikatā,

I’ve realized the psychic powers,

5.4

patto me āsavakkhayo;

and attained the ending of defilements.

5.5

Chaḷabhiññā sacchikatā,

I have realized the six kinds of direct knowledge,

5.6

kataṁ buddhassa sāsanan”ti.

and fulfilled the Buddha’s instructions.
