(…) Vuttañhetaṁ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaṁ:
This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.
“Dvīhi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato bhikkhu diṭṭheva dhamme dukkhaṁ viharati savighātaṁ saupāyāsaṁ sapariḷāhaṁ;
“Mendicants, when a mendicant has two qualities they live unhappily in this very life—with distress, anguish, and fever—
kāyassa bhedā paraṁ maraṇā duggati pāṭikaṅkhā.
and when the body breaks up, after death, they can expect a bad rebirth.
Indriyesu aguttadvāratāya ca, bhojane amattaññutāya ca.
Not guarding the sense doors and eating too much.
Imehi kho, bhikkhave, dvīhi dhammehi samannāgato bhikkhu diṭṭheva dhamme dukkhaṁ viharati savighātaṁ saupāyāsaṁ sapariḷāhaṁ;
When a mendicant possesses these two qualities they live unhappily in this very life—with distress, anguish, and fever—
kāyassa bhedā paraṁ maraṇā duggati pāṭikaṅkhā”ti.
and when the body breaks up, after death, they can expect a bad rebirth.”
Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti.
This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
Paṭhamaṁ.
