Vuttañhetaṁ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaṁ:
This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.
“Dvīhi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato bhikkhu diṭṭheva dhamme sukhaṁ viharati avighātaṁ anupāyāsaṁ apariḷāhaṁ;
“Mendicants, when a mendicant has two qualities they live happily in this very life—without distress, anguish, and fever—
kāyassa bhedā paraṁ maraṇā sugati pāṭikaṅkhā.
and when the body breaks up, after death, they can expect a good rebirth.
Indriyesu guttadvāratāya ca, bhojane mattaññutāya ca.
Guarding the sense doors and moderation in eating.
Imehi kho, bhikkhave, dvīhi dhammehi samannāgato bhikkhu diṭṭheva dhamme sukhaṁ viharati avighātaṁ anupāyāsaṁ apariḷāhaṁ;
When a mendicant possesses these two qualities they live happily in this very life—without distress, anguish, and fever—
kāyassa bhedā paraṁ maraṇā sugati pāṭikaṅkhā”ti.
and when the body breaks up, after death, they can expect a good rebirth.”
Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti.
This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
Dutiyaṁ.
