Khujjasobhita

1.1

“Ye cittakathī bahussutā,

“One of those monks who live in Pāṭaliputta—

Samaṇā pāṭaliputtavāsino;

such brilliant speakers, and very learned—

Tesaññataroyamāyuvā,

stands at the door:

Dvāre tiṭṭhati khujjasobhito”.

the old man, Khujjasobhita.

an old man, trembling in the gale.”

“Suyuddhena suyiṭṭhena,

“By war well fought, by sacrifice well made,

saṅgāmavijayena ca;

by victory in battle;

Brahmacariyānuciṇṇena,

by leading the spiritual life:

evāyaṁ sukhamedhatī”ti.

that’s how one prospers in happiness.”
