“Paṇṇavīsativassāni,

In the twenty-five years

1.2

yato pabbajitāya me;

since I went forth,

Nābhijānāmi cittassa,

I don’t know that I had ever found

samaṁ laddhaṁ kudācanaṁ.

serenity in my mind.

Aladdhā cetaso santiṁ,

I had failed to find peace of heart,

citte avasavattinī;

or any control over my mind.

Tato saṁvegamāpādiṁ,

When I remembered the victor’s instructions,

saritvā jinasāsanaṁ.

I was struck with a sense of urgency.

Bahūhi dukkhadhammehi,

Though subject to so many painful things,

appamādaratāya me;

I have, through my love of diligence,

3.3

Taṇhakkhayo anuppatto,

reached the ending of craving,

3.4

kataṁ buddhassa sāsanaṁ;

and fulfilled the Buddha’s instructions.

Ajja me sattamī ratti,

This is the seventh day

yato taṇhā visositā”ti.

since my craving dried up.
